The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) has
officially qualified for the knockout stage in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The @USWNT scored their 18th goal of the group stage - that's a new #FIFAWWC record! 🇺🇸💪 pic.twitter.com/Yw0MDoRCVq— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) June 20, 2019
Despite their success, the USWNT was criticized for their
June 11th win against Thailand. The U.S. dominated Thailand with a 13-0 win,
which for those unfamiliar with Soccer has never been done in Women's World Cup
or Men's World Cup history. Many people questioned whether the team should have
eased up on the goals and stated that their cheering after every goal was
overkill.
The USWNT is representing the United States in the World Cup tournament better than their male counterparts who for the first time since 1986 didn't qualify in the FIFA Men’s World Cup last year. Any story in the media comes with criticism. To the Women's National Team, I say go forth to win and have fun doing it. You deserve every celebratory accomplishment because only you know the sacrifices that you have overcome to be where you are today. Thank you for representing our nation and hope you bring home the trophy again.
Watch the game highlights below provided by Fox Soccer and comment if you think the Women should have toned down their celebrations:
